Today, your dentist has the
ability to not only change
your smile but they can
change the way you look at
yourself which can transform
the entire way you feel about
yourself.
Some patients have come to
our office and would not part
their lips let alone smile. They
noted that they have never
smiled in their whole life.
They were embarrassed how
they looked to themselves
and to others.
In one to two visits we have
had people who have never
smiled a day in their lives,
break out of their shells and
even go out on dates.
This was accomplished by
changing the way they looked
by giving them the smile that
they deserved. They feel like
a movie star once they finish
with their dental makeover.
What kind of changes are we
talking about?
Sometimes it can be as
simple as whitening your
teeth either in the office with
Power or Laser Whitening
and even take home
whitening products.
Some patients will choose to
have braces placed on their
teeth to straighten a crooked
smile.
Others will have a
combination of crowns,
veneers and implants which
can give you an almost
instant extreme dental
makeover.
We at Braun Dental are
currently working to have you
come from anywhere in the
world to come and stay at our
office for one to two weeks in
our luxury 3 bedroom guest
house next to our office. This
will be available by Spring
2008. During your stay you
can have your very own
extreme dental makeover and
you can do it in style!

site, where we will be having
updates of our facility
changes.

Cerec 3 is a computer aided
design program which then
transmits the data to a milling
machine to create your crown,
inlay or onlay from a solid block of
material. Pictured right is an
optical impression viewed on the
computer screen. The next image
is the computer rendered crown in
three dimensions. We can change
the size shape and edges right
from this screen. After the image is
perfect, we send the data to our
milling machine pictured to the
right. In a matter of minutes (4 to 8
minutes) we have the final crown
milled to perfection!
What does this mean for you?
You can have a crown, multiple
crowns or inlays prepared and
delivered in only 1 appointment!
We use the same Empress and
E.max materials with our Cerec
blocks. This means you are
getting the same quality but faster.
We also can modify your shades
for front teeth in our existing
Empress/Emax Certified
Laboratory.
Call us today to have a same day
crown or inlay placed.
Just think....
no more impressions...
no more temporaries...
and no more wait!
Invisalign has clearly revolutionised
braces. Other than instant implants, I
personally believe that Invisalign has
completely changed the face of
dentistry. As an Invisalign patient
myself, I can tell you how much easier
they are to have than traditional
braces. They are more comfortable.
You will not break a wire and cut
yourself. They are just plain easier to
wear. The bonus is that you also get
to look at what your teeth will look like
before you even begin. For more

Dental click on our Invisalign link.

At what age should my child go
to the dentist?
I always suggest that you bring
your child to your own dental
appointments. They will get used
to all the sights, smells and
sounds. The only time I tell people
to not do this if you are a total
nervous wreck yourself. These
feelings will transfer to your child
and it is best that they do not
experience your fears. As your
child is at your hygiene visits, you
can have the hygienist take a peek
in your child's mouth. This will get
them used to the process. Once
your child has their teeth, it will be
time for the visit to be just for them.
At this first visit, we may or may not
take x-rays. It will depend on if we
see active decay and your child's
willingness to get things done. At
this age, my philosophy is that we
do not push them to do anything
they do not want to do. If we see
they have definite tooth problems
and they are not willing, then we
will refer you to the pediatric
dentist. They may treat them with
medications that can have a
calming effect so they can get the
necessary treatment completed.
My child has a cavity and will
need to be numb to get it done.
What do I say in advance and
what will happen at the visit?
The first thing I tell parents is to
really say nothing except we are
going to the dentist. If your child
asks why, then answer that the
dentist wants to look at your teeth.
If they have already had this visit
and they need a cavity filled, then
let them know the dentist is going
to fix your tooth. If they ask how,
you can tell them you don't really
know but the dentist will explain
everything and answer all of their
questions.
Do NOT tell them that it isn't going
to hurt out of the blue. If someone
told you that we are going to the
grocery store but don't worry it isn't
going to hurt, how would that make
you think? You might think the
grocery clerk will hide in the
produce isle and chuck a lemon at
your head.
Kid's really do think that way. The
less you say the better. If you don't
have an answer then tell them you
don't know but the dentist will let
them know.
I will now describe that first
numbing visit. It is the opposite
what I do for adults.
The first thing we do is put a bit
topical gel in their mouth at the
spot we will be numbing. We tell
the kids that we are putting a bit of
sleepy gel on their gums and that it
will make it feel funny in their
mouth.
The next thing I do is tell them that
we are going to fix their tooth but
we need to give the tooth a little bit
of sleepy juice to make their tooth
get sleepy. I then hand them the
small glass vial which they then
place in then place in the holder. I
then show them how I will hold it in
their mouth. I then put it down in
front of them. Kids do not want to
have hidden surprises coming from
behind.
I never show them the needle part
itself as it is behind the cap but
they do see the entire set up so
they have no fear. They have also
been helping me put it together so
they do not have any fear about
that tool.
When I am ready to give them the
local, I take the cap off and start to
place it in their mouth. I do let them
know it is going to pinch a little. As
I am injecting (very slowly so it
minimizes the pain), I tell them the
three rules and they really have to
listen as they will have to tell their
parent what the rules are because
their parent might forget. I let them
know that their cheeks, lips and
tongue might feel funny so they
need to not bite on their lips, not
chew on their cheeks and
sometimes their face will get itchy
so they should not scratch their
face.
By the time I tell them the rules, the
numbing is done and they are
concentrating on the rules and
they have not had a chance to
think about anything else.
We then get the procedure done
and off they go home or back to
school. We didn't talk about pain,
hurting, needles or shots. It was
just a nice quiet visit to the dentist!
